About Chinquapin
Chinquapin Literary Magazine began in 1978 and has been creating yearly anthologies of student art and writing ever since.

For the past 42 years, we have been run entirely by undergraduate students of the University of California Santa Cruz. Chinquapin is a space for students to learn about the ins and outs of publishing; both as submitters and editors. Our mission is to provide a high quality, inclusive platform for undergraduate art.

Please note: The Editors of chinquapin do not write for the publication. We collect hundreds of submissions from the wider student body and then create the issue from there. We discuss each and every piece and vote on them blind. We also spend a significant amount of time designing and editing the magazine.
Interested in submitting?
We accept all forms of work that can be printed in a magazine such as short fiction, poetry, visual art (paintings, photography, sketches, digital art, etc.) or creative work that defies a definition or category. We only accept submissions from CURRENT UCSC UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS.
